    Academic Records The Registrar's Office is responsible for maintaining information regarding students’ academic progress at RLNC, including grade reports and permanent academic records. The Registrar's Office also collects and maintains current and accurate student information, such as tribal enrollment status, address, program of study, and names of academic advisor(s). This information is required by the federal government for determination of funding, so any changes of personal data, such as change of address, change of program, or change of advisor, should be reported to the Registrar’s Office. RLNC requires a written authorization (FERPA Release of Information Form linked at right) signed by the student, before releasing information such as student grades, transcripts, and other data, in compliance with the Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA), which governs the privacy of student records. Directory-type information/data, however, may be given to any inquirer without written authorization from the student. This includes the following: Student Name Local address and telephone number Permanent address and telephone number E-mail address Place of birth Major field of study Dates of attendance and of program completion Full- or part-time enrollment status Year in school (class) Diplomas/certificates awarded Scholastic honors and awards received Other educational institutions attended Visual image Students may request that any or all of this information remain confidential by completing a FERPA Non-Disclosure Request Form (use link at right) and returning it to the Registrar's Office.   • A.A.S. Social & Behavioral Sciences | RLNC

    Social & Behavioral Sciences, Associate in Applied Science The program is designed for students to receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree, Social and Behavioral Sciences. This degree program is a two-year course of study designed intentionally to meet all of the general education requirements, in addition to exposing students to the field of social and behavioral sciences. Students can choose from a variety of courses addressing human relationships, social problems, community services, the criminal justice system, and the helping professions. The degree program is centered and infused with culturally relevant material. It is the intention of this program of study to provide students an exposure to the Ojibwe language and allow them the opportunity to understand Anishinaabe values and how these values can provide a foundation for lifelong learning and community involvement. Graduation Requirements A.A. Program Overview Courses Learning Outcomes Understand/demonstrate the writing and speaking processes through invention, organization, drafting, revision, editing, and presentation. Use evidence to analyze logical connections and implicit assumptions in order to make decisions and effectively problem-solve. Demonstrate understanding of natural science principles, methods and scientific inquiry and traditional Indigenous American knowledge perspectives. Apply problem-solving and/or modeling strategies to their surrounding environment. Examine Indigenous and Western social institutions in order to investigate the human condition. Demonstrate verbal and nonverbal speaking skills reflecting history, culture, and social issues in the lives of Indigenous people. Understand the development of changing meanings of various group identities in the United States’ history and culture. Demonstrate knowledge of cultural, social, religious, and linguistic differences. Understand and apply core concepts (e.g. politics, rights and obligations, justice, liberty) to specific issues. Articulate and defend the actions they would take on various environmental issues. Communicate via various mediums of technology (e.g. video, audio, power points, word processing). Demonstrate knowledge of the professions in the social and behavioral sciences Demonstrate improved listening skills, writing skills, case management skills and counseling skills. Articulate local, regional, state, national, and global social problems and advocate for changes that will improve the lives of others.

    Sponsored Programs - Land Grant Extension (USDA-NIFA) - Ongoing Community Mental Health Addressed Through Cultural Connections and Experiential Therapy The Red Lake Nation College Extension Program focuses on community mental health and wellness and interactions with natural resources through Ojibwe traditional practices. We have in-person and online workshops in traditional practices, mental and physical health, and cultural connections for students and community members of all ages. A new healing garden is also being established. See [Link to Extension Web Page] for more details. Other RLNC Extension Program awards include: Healing Garden and Traditional Foodways Workshops North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Garden and Workshops - 2021 ($5,000) Supports development of the RLNC Extension Program healing garden located in the back of the college campus and traditional food workshops for students and community members. EXCITE - 2021-22 ($26,794) Extension Collaboration on Immunization Teaching and Engagement Covid-19 Focus: Vaccinate with Confidence (Activity 1) This is an extension collaboration on COVID-19 immunization teaching and engagement for students. Equity (USDA-NIFA) - Ongoing Institutional Capacity Building: Development and Presentation of Curriculum and Instructional Materials to Enhance Student Learning Focuses on curricula design and materials development to enhance student learning by making lessons more engaging, relevant, and culturally responsive to the educational needs and interests of our Native students. Research (USDA-NIFA) - 2020-22 ($60,000) Soil Properties and Impacts of Cover Crops: Student Research at Red Lake Nation College This is a collaboration between RLNC and the Grossman Lab at UMN-Twin Cities. Each RLNC student research intern is paired with a UMN graduate student mentor. Cover crop research plots have just been established on the Red Lake farm by the 3 interns in 2021 and the Grossman Lab team. Student interns will collect data on cover crops, insect visitors, and soil properties and present research posters on their results in collaboration with their mentors. Facilities Support (USDA- RD) - Annual This annual funding is available through the USDA-Rural Development Tribal College Initiative Grants program. At RLNC, we use it to support building maintenance equipment, computer replacement cycle, vehicles, and other equipment needs.
